50,000 Drones. A new Era for Auterion and the whole Western industry
Today Reuters reported something we have been working toward for years: a European nation is funding 50,000 strike drones for Ukraine, built by SkyFall and powered by Auterion software on Skynode S. The contract is worth about $100 / €90 million. Deliveries have already begun. Our production is largely done; what remains now is shipping. We cannot comment on the specific European nation funding the drones, but this is an order that our team in Munich, Germany is delivering.

This is one of the largest drone orders in NATO. We have not been able to find any reporting of bigger numbers in a single deal. For perspective, the Pentagon’s entire first Drone Dominance purchase, spread across eleven vendors, covers 30,000 drones. This single contract exceeds it.
With that, this is not just a new era for us, but also for the whole industry. This contract marks the moment when the Western industry outside of Ukraine hit scale.
Affordable for NATO, Premium for Ukraine
$102 / €90 million for 50,000 strike drones works out to roughly $2,050 / €1,800 per aircraft, with ground control stations and program overhead included. Each one carries software that autonomously tracks and hits moving targets in the terminal phase of flight, the moment when jamming has historically caused lower-cost drones to miss. To be clear about where this sits on the price curve: $2,000 is well above the cheapest Ukrainian models, which sit around $400 with manual piloting (both figures exclude the warhead).
However, compare that to what Western militaries have been buying: precision munitions at six or seven figures per shot (30-60 times this price), drones procured in batches of dozens, priced like exquisite aircraft, delivered on timelines measured in years. The gap between that model and what the battlefield actually consumes is not a rounding error. It is a structural failure.
This order closes the gap. A NATO country can buy strike capability at Ukrainian cost and Ukrainian volume, today, through Western industrial channels. For Auterion, it means we are operating at a scale no other Western company outside Ukraine has reached yet.
We measure ourselves by effect on target
What you pay for is the effect on the target, not the airframe.
The hardest part of a strike drone’s mission is the final approach. Electronic warfare is densest there, links get cut, and targets move behind cover. A cheap drone that misses is wasted money.
Our terminal guidance locks onto the designated target and completes the engagement autonomously, against moving targets, even when the operator’s link degrades in the final seconds. That is the difference between 50,000 airframes and 50,000 effects.
To be precise about what autonomy means here: a human designates every target, and that decision is never delegated to a machine. This is a choice, not a technical limitation of the system: The software automates everything after the human decision, so that jamming cannot undo it.
Scale is the whole game
At 50,000 units per contract, we negotiate supply chains at volume (for Skynode S, the AI brain board that is mounted into all these drones) and our manufacturing lines amortize. More important, software improvements deploy across the entire fleet at once, so every lesson from the front makes 50,000 aircraft better simultaneously. Cost falls and capability rises in the same motion.
This is why Auterion will help deliver 100,000 drones to Ukraine this year across multiple hardware partners, funded by several Western governments, including 33,000 already delivered under a $50 million Pentagon contract. Nobody else in the Western world operates at this volume, and because volume drives cost, nobody else operates at this cost.
We have 100,000 drones on contract
We made a lot of progress over the last 12 months: 33,000 strike kits delivered to Ukraine under a Pentagon contract. A European production contract through our joint venture with Airlogix for thousands of heavy autonomous strike systems, manufactured on German soil. Our software in multiple entries in the Pentagon’s $1.1 billion Drone Dominance initiative in Gauntlet II. And now a single order roughly as big as that entire gauntlet, and larger than Gauntlet I.
Each was reported as a milestone. Together they form a curve, and the next data points are already in motion: combat-proven capability from Ukraine, procured at scale by allied governments, produced across an allied industrial network, with our software as the common layer.
We have been talking about autonomous mass last year, it took us less than 12 months to get there ourselves.
Federated manufacturing is enabling scale
The structure of this deal tells the story. Ukrainian drones from SkyFall, refined by three years of daily combat. Software from Auterion, integrated in Munich, providing the autonomy that survives the terminal phase.
No single country built this, and no vertically integrated company could have. It is the alliance operating as one industrial system, each node doing what it does best, connected by a common software layer.
I met Skyfall in Kyiv and could see the scale and professionalism they operate at - the size of their operation, the throughput they have. Our partnership is not just based on two leading companies coming together, but also and maybe more importantly, by people who rely on personal trust and shared values.
There is a German dimension worth naming. Berlin has debated for years what form its support for Ukraine should take, and some categories of systems remain politically contested. Our earlier partnership with Airlogix is giving Ukraine scale while building up the German industrial base.
That is the model I have argued for since the beginning. The democratic world does not need to out-monolith its adversaries. It needs to federate. Open standards and shared software infrastructure let dozens of manufacturers across dozens of countries behave like one production base.
What comes next
Drones are following the trajectory of every computing platform before them: standardized, software-defined, mass-produced, cheap. The countries and companies that understand this will set the terms of deterrence for the next decade. This is why I recently called drones the next cell phones.
Fifty thousand drones in a single order is not the end state. Production for this contract is nearly complete, the next ones are in negotiation, and the curve keeps bending. We intend to keep setting the pace.
